Quarantined

Dear Loved Ones of the Missionaries in the England London Mission,

Never let it be said that things don’t move at a brisk pace in the England London Mission. Just yesterday, we wrote to bring you up to date on the conditions in our mission regarding the coronavirus. Since then, we have received instructions from our Area Presidency that our missionaries should now quarantine themselves as an additional precaution.

This means that all missionaries will remain in their flats for most of the day. We encourage them to get outside two times a day for exercise and physical activity. They can also leave their flats to shop for groceries. We are encouraging them to minimize the number of trips to the grocery store and to keep a two-week supply of food in their flats. At this point, they can still teach lessons to friends and others by Facebook or other acceptable technologies—but not in person until this virus is contained.

As a mission, we are anticipating a great time of learning, teaching, and serving as we implement Flat-centered Missionary Work. We have attached the daily schedules we have given our missionaries as a suggestion for how to structure their days. Because this is entirely new territory for all of us, we are continuing to create opportunities for our missionaries to thrive during this unprecedented time.

We are all in good spirits and excited about finding different ways to share the gospel. We appreciate your letters and packages, your faith, and your prayers.

With love,
President and Sister Checketts

This is simply an example of what a flat-centered day of missionary work could look like. It is recommended that you adjust the order in which you perform routine activities, which will make the schedule productive, fulfilling, and enjoyable!
As shown below, different activities have different productivity value, and efforts should be focused on using time for the four-star activities. There is plenty to do and plenty to continue learning!
FLAT-CENTERED MISSIONARY WORK ELM 2020
4 Star Activities êêêê
·  Schedule an online or video teaching opportunity. Invite a member to join in an online lesson with someone you’re teaching.
·  Reach out to the recent converts in your ward as well as to converts in whose conversion you played a role. Minister to them.
·  M3: Ministering March Madness. Share a spiritual thought or musical Item with a ward member and ask them to “tag” the next members who you should call. (This is clearly a wonderful opportunity to share the First Vision with every ward member)
·  Continue teaching friends and members through WhatsApp:
o Follow up with them.
o Read and pray with them.
o Ask if they would like others to join as well.
·  Contact people from your phone or contact list to see how they are doing and to encourage them.
·  Language Study Ideas: to be sent out as soon as prepared. (1.5 hours)
·  Extra 1.5 hours of physical activity (added to the 30 minutes of outside activity in the morning)
3 Star Activities êêê
·  Reach out to 10 members each day and share a spiritual thought, express gratitude, or get to know them. (Use text, email, or WhatsApp messenger.)
·  Reach out to members of the ward council and express gratitude. What families or individuals are they thinking about? How can you offer your help, and how can you get to know these people better? Invite Members to do the same.
·  How can you use Area Book Planner to determine which members may be best suited to work with those you’re teaching (consider age, life experience, common interests, and so forth)?
·  Roleplays as part of companionship study
·  Family History:
o Download and explore the Family History app.
o Prepare a name for a family member to take to the temple in the future (familyhistory.org).
o Work with the ward family history consultant(s) online and ask them to teach you how to use family history tools.
· Area Book:
o Update records that need attention (lessons taught, commitments kept, and so forth).
o Explore the features of Area Book Planner. Which tools could be used more effectively (smart sort, goal setting and planning, progress records)?
o Clean up records that need to be added or deleted.
o Identify and reach out to potential or former contacts.
·  Review the AGSM Mission files (Including the Emotional Support section)
·  Review the talks from the most recent general conference. Which invitations from conference are you working on?
·  Study the Gospel Topics Essays, Saints, and other resources in the Church history section in Gospel Library
·  Study Come Follow Me as a companionship. How can you help those you teach, including ward members, to develop the habit of daily Book of Mormon study?
·  Review each principle in Chapter 3 of Preach My Gospel. Find short videos that apply to each principle. Determine those you might share or use to follow up after teaching opportunities.
·  See if there are other ideas from "Finding through Your Own Efforts" section in Preach My Gospel (page 166) that you could do digitally in your teaching area.
·  Preach My Gospel: Review each chapter and participate in the ideas for study and application.
·  Book of Mormon and the doctrine of Christ: Using five different colors, identify the doctrine of Christ in your scriptures and mark any passages that reference faith in the Savior, repentance, baptism, the Holy Ghost, or enduring to the end.
·  Talks: Write 3–5 talks on topics from Preach My Gospel chapter 3. Focus on your personal conversion to these principles, on your own experiences, and on ways you can help lift the faith of others.

2 Star Activities  êê
·  Study Preach My Gospel and identify any section that discusses working with members. What can you learn and apply?
·  Watch all of “The District” videos (1 and 2 and “Online Proselyting”). Note three things you learned and one thing you want apply.
·  Clean your apartments and dejunk. Discard items that should be thrown away or donated.
·  Exercise!
·  Update your journal.
1 Star Activities ê
·  What 20 members do you want to get to know better? What can you share about yourself? What will help them develop greater trust in you? How can you bless them? Make a plan.
·  Review “The District” videos that focus on working with members. What can you learn and apply?
·  Review all the resources in Gospel Library under “Missionary Training.” What tools have you not used? How can you use them more effectively?
·  Discover how to use the “Study Plans” tool in Gospel Library. Create study plans for you and your companion.
·  Study the topics available in “Self-Reliance.” How can these topics bless someone you’re teaching?
·  Learn to cook something new
·  Learn something new in the scripture that you can share online with someone today
·  Watch BYU speeches and general conference addresses.
