Week 2 of Complete Isolation

Image
Week 2 of complete isolation! This week we were a bit more used to the lifestyle so it was definitely a lot better than the last week. Still trying to get the hang of this whole online proselyting thing but we are getting there. The ward has still been great at providing us with food and as well the extra time for exercise has been nice. The UK government has been super strict on the lockdown though, everyone is only allowed outside once per day, and also any public gatherings of more than 2 people is illegal. Which means it's just gonna be me and my companion for the next few weeks and we can meet anyone else. It's a sticky situation but we will fight through.   Tuesday (Mar 24): Today was a great start to the week, in the morning I woke up and really hit the grind on the weights for exercise since we can't go out in the mornings any more, then I got a solid 2 hours of Book of Mormon study in. Then we had a companionship study, which was about come follow me, then did ...

No More Office Mail Delivery

Dear Parents of Our England London Missionaries,   Because of the recent intensified lockdown policies, for right now we are not able to drive around our mission delivering mail. Our goal is to support both the spirit and the letter of the law, knowing that is the best way to keep our missionaries safe and to do everything we can to slow the spread of the coronavirus.   This means that if you would like to send something to your missionary, it would now be best if you send it directly to their flat. Amazon UK is still making deliveries, as is Royal Mail. If you need help knowing your missionary’s address, please email me, and I will be happy to send that right off to you.   We appreciate your support and hope you know that we are adapting as fast as we can to take the best care of our missionaries.   With love and appreciation for you, Sister Hartvigsen Just for fun, I am including Stockton's email address which I obtained from Sister Harvigsen.  I immediately...

Update From the Mission President

To the Missionaries and Parents of the England London Mission, We write to you from London—in our mission flat right next to the Hyde Park Chapel on Exhibition Road. For over a year and a half, we have lived in this vibrant part of London with the world’s finest museums steps away and the famous Royal Albert Hall at the top of our street across from Hyde Park. Spring is close at hand, and we have had three glorious days of sunshine and blue skies. These have been most welcome after a long and grey winter with many rainy, cold days. The daffodils and camellias, surrounded by blossoming trees, all make for a place of breathless beauty. But much to our dismay, this glorious show does not occupy everyone’s attention as it should. London is like a ghost town. In beautiful weather like we are having, Exhibition Road would usually be teeming with thousands—families, children, college young adults from everywhere on the globe. But now there is no one out. Empty busses drive pas...

Indefinite Isolation

Image
Well this week was a wild one to be 100% honest. There is no point in writing up about each individual day because on Wednesday afternoon we had a mission wide call where we found out it was time to start an indefinite isolation. So basically from Wednesday onward up until this point we have been asked to stay in our flat as much as possible and to avoid contact with anyone else besides missionaries. So I'm just going to write a general and basic email about the week because almost every day was the exact same with the same routine. We are blessed to be able to have more time to study and more time for exercise each day, we get an extra 1.5 hours of exercise per day. Also the members in our ward have really taken care of us and they are always making sure we have food provided, they are making meals, and buying us groceries. We have definitely been blessed in these wild situations with many things to be positive about.   For the most part we have woken up every day, went out for a ...

Area Presidency Letter

Dear Parents of England London Missionaries,   The attached letter is from our Area Presidency for all of Europe, and is important and timely—in light of recent media reports. As you can see, the Church has received strong assurances that the borders of countries will not be closed to their own citizens. We fully expect missionaries who complete their missions to return on time to their families.     For now, we continue to stay in close touch with all of our Elders and Sisters and we are so happy to have a full-time medical doctor assigned to our mission to answer their questions and concerns. Even though the missionaries are self-isolating and are not out and about speaking to people, their attitudes are good and they are making the best of it. They are quite remarkable.   We love you all and are praying for your families and your safety---wherever you may be.   Deb and David Checketts   EUROPE AREA PRESIDENCY Porths...

Quarantined

Dear Loved Ones of the Missionaries in the England London Mission,   Never let it be said that things don’t move at a brisk pace in the England London Mission. Just yesterday, we wrote to bring you up to date on the conditions in our mission regarding the coronavirus. Since then, we have received instructions from our Area Presidency that our missionaries should now quarantine themselves as an additional precaution.   This means that all missionaries will remain in their flats for most of the day. We encourage them to get outside two times a day for exercise and physical activity. They can also leave their flats to shop for groceries. We are encouraging them to minimize the number of trips to the grocery store and to keep a two-week supply of food in their flats. At this point, they can still teach lessons to friends and others by Facebook or other acceptable technologies—but not in person until this virus is contained.   As a mission, we are anticipating a great time of ...
