Zone Conference

Wow what an awesome and challenging week. I learned a lot and had some really good days and some really tough days. The best though was zone conference where a member of the 70 spoke to us. I shared some amazing quotes that he said while speaking at the end of this email, but you gotta read the whole email to know more! 😉

Tuesday (January 29): Well this morning we went out and did some finding and that was good, then we came back and had some lunch before Brother Hobbs picked us up to do some service since we won't be able to do Thursday this week because of zone conference. But brother Hobbs had to work later that night so we could only serve from 12-4. We made some calls using the area book and also did a bit of finding and then we just concluded the night with studies and made some enchiladas for dinner! Great day honestly.

Wednesday: Oh boy today looked like it was going to be really great when we were making our plans in the morning. We had 3 lessons lined up almost back to back to back and it was going to be awesome. Well turns out all 3 lessons didn't happen because the people didn't show up, so that really sucked... because of that we spent 4 hours straight on the street contacting people and that was ok. Thankfully we were blessed with sunshine and no wind today, because although it was below freezing it would have been so much worse if it was rainy and windy. Today went by so slow but we managed to make it through and tomorrow is zone conference and I'm stoked! It's gonna be amazing.

Thursday: Holy Smokes I can't believe that we made it to the end of January that went by so quick! But February is the coldest month of the year in England so this is going to be fun. But wow today was so great, we had to be to Hyde Park in London by 9:30 so we had to leave our flat at 6:45 in order to make it to zone conference. This transfer we had a member of the 70 Elder Gary B Saban in charge of the zone conference and it was amazing!!! He was such a brilliant speaker and I took some really good notes with some great quotes that I will share at the end of this email. I really learned a lot today. I also talked with President Checketts some more and found out that he owned 2 Hockey teams in the NHL as well. Haha this guy is unbelievable. The more I get to know him to more I love him and really look up to him. It's a fact that we are called to our mission President more so than our mission area. He's the best!

Friday: Today we had some service planned in the morning and it rained all morning and afternoon, but we did some great yard service and I enjoyed spending time in the garden moving bushes and clearing out the flower beds. It was a lot of fun and they fed us afterwards which is always the best! Then we were able to travel home and I got a great nap on the bus ride back and we did some finding as well as our studies and I made some super tasty dinner that was like a chicken stew with chicken, potatoes, carrots, and stuff. Great way to start off the new month.

Saturday: Ok wow today was sooo slow!! Just like Wednesday we had a lot of lessons planned and they all either got cancelled or flogged. 4 stinkin lessons today all went to rubbish. So we basically spent the whole day finding on the street and we also tried some tracting but had no luck. Street Contacting is definitely the most effective thing here in England and when that doesn't go well you're in for a long day. I honestly got super discouraged today one of the worst I have ever been on my mission. I really just needed something to lift my spirits and like usual the Lord provided. We bumped into sister Hobbs on the street who is basically my mom so it was like running into my mom on the street and that helped a lot. Bad days are no fun but they are necessary. I just manage to get through them and I know that things will get better.😁

Sunday: Fast Sunday was pretty good. It was probably the best fast and testimony meeting I have had on my mission as well, all the members gave really great testimonies and there weren't too many random stories. It is really hard to fast as a missionary though because we are super active while fasting. It becomes even more of a sacrifice, which also helps make it more meaningful and hopefully more beneficial. Me and Elder Hori were hoping to get invited over for dinner today but that didn't happen so when the time came we had to cook our own big meal to break our fast. Chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, pretty tasty stuff and it was lovely. Nothing super exciting happened today, Sundays are always just really good days.

Great quotes from Elder Saban at zone conference:
• "Service is the secret to a good companionship, a good marriage, and a good life"
• "There is great strength in numbers, there is greater strength in unity"
• "There are only 2 reasons to be unhappy; if you don't know the truth, or if you do but don't live it"
• "You will never be happier than you are grateful"

Wow these are just a few of some great quotes that I wrote down. It truly is a privilege to be able to listen to one of the chosen servants of the Lord! Hope you all enjoy these as much as I did and have a great week!

Elder Orchard

It's freezing here but the sunsets are still beautiful.

We made some tasty enchiladas for dinner one night.

Nice morning sky from our flat.
Other stuff we learned: Yeah the whole Hobbs family is so amazing. They really just look after us and make sure we are taken care of its so great. We taught like 2 lessons but didn't really get much of anywhere. Oh well, that's just kinda the way it is here in England. Tough to find genuine people with interest. Also something really cool that I found out from President this week. I don't know if you remember Stockton Madsen from my junior high? He was on the basketball team 7th grade year but then I think he moved. Well apparently he is coming to our mission in May! That's crazy huh?

I am glad we are to February because then I just have to get through this month and it will all be uphill until next winter. Unfortunately no dinner appointments this week that is twice in a row which is a bit of a bummer. Not anything else to exciting. Just we have interviews on Thursday so that will be fun!
